 What is Uprima?

Uprima (apomorphine) is one of the most recent impotence medications on the market designed to help men achieve and maintain a sufficient erection for intercourse.

What is the median time from dissolving Uprima under the tongue and the onset of an erection?

 Clinical studies have shown:

34% of the erections occurred within 10 minutes of dissolving the Uprima tablet under the tongue.
66% of the erections occurred within 20 minutes of dissolving the Uprima tablet under the tongue.

Will Uprima allow me to have an erection for hours?

Once an individual ejaculates his erection will return to the normal flaccid state. Uprima, however, can shorten the resolution phase or the time it takes to achieve another erection.

What types of results did Uprima produce during clinical trials?

Rome -- Men with erectile dysfunction (ED) who responded to UPRIMA(R) (apomorphine hydrochloride SL) showed consistently high rates of success over 18 months, according to data presented at the 4th Congress of the European Society for Sexual and Impotence Research (ESSIR). Across the entire study period, an average of 92 percent of attempts resulted in an erection firm enough for intercourse among patients taking UPRIMA 2 mg(1). Efficacy was measured as the percentage of attempts resulting in an erection firm enough for intercourse with UPRIMA, according to patient and partner diary assessments. Both patient and partner evaluations confirmed the success rate.

The findings provide important evidence of the long-term efficacy of UPRIMA, the first centrally acting oral therapy to be approved for the first- line treatment of erectile dysfunction.

What are the precautions/warnings concerning Uprima?

Individuals who have the following medical conditions should not take Uprima:

  • Cardiovascular complications i.e. heart attack, congestive heart failure, unstable angina (chest pain), uncontrolled hypertension or hypotension, history of postural hypotension, stroke,
  • Compromised renal or hepatic function
  • Abnormally formed penis i.e. angulation, cavernosal fibrosis, Pyronie's disease
  • Uprima should not be used in men where sexual activity is inadvisable

Medications:

Patients taking certain medications to treat medical conditions i.e. nitrate medications, certain hypertensive medications, centrally acting dopamine agonist or antagonists.

Note: Nitrates are found in many prescription medications used to treat angina (chest pain secondary to heart disease). Nitrates are also found in recreational drugs.

  • Nitroglycerin ( skin patches or pastes, sprays, ointments and tablets that are used orally)
  • Isosorbide mononitrate and isosorbide dinitrate (tablets that are swallowed, chewed or dissolved in the mouth)
  • Nitrates are found in recreational drugs i.e. amyl nitrate or nitrate ("poppers"). Individuals who are not sure if any of their medications contain nitrates should consult with their healthcare professional prior to using Uprima.

Men who are taking medicines that contain nitrates (Nitroglycerin) of any kind must never use Uprima. Patients should not take Uprima even if you only take nitroglycerin medication occasionally.

May I consume alcohol while taking Uprima?

Consuming alcohol while taking Uprima is not recommended. The combination may increase the possibility of hypotension (low blood pressure). In addition, alcohol may reduce sexual performance.

Does Uprima affect my ability to drive or operate heavy equipment?

Driving or using heavy equipment is not recommended while using Uprima. Some individuals experience some dizziness or even light-headedness while taking the medication. The side effects usually reside within a few hours from your last dose.

What if Uprima does not produce the desired effects that I anticipated?

If Uprima does not produce the desired effects do not despair. Uprima is just one in many treatment options for erectile dysfunction (please see the erectile dysfunction information section).

Does the use of Uprima offer any protection against sexually transmitted diseases?

No, the use of Uprima offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. Patients should continue to use protective measures necessary to guard against these diseases.

Should I use Uprima if I have not had sexual intercourse in a long time?

Sexual activity can cause a strain on the cardiovascular system. If you have not had any physical activity or if you have any pre-existing medical conditions you should consult with your local physician prior to using the medication.

Can I get Uprima over the counter?

No, Uprima should only be taken by prescription from a licensed physician. Regulations do not permit Uprima to be taken without prescription. Secondary to the advent of the internet individuals may now order Uprima online simply by completing an online medical questionnaire. Subsequently, a licensed physician will review your medical history and patient profile. If approved for a Uprima prescription, your order shipped discreetly and promptly to your home or office (order Uprima online now).

Is Uprima less effective in treating ED that is secondary to certain underlying medical conditions?

This question is somewhat difficult to answer right now. More data is expected in the near future. Some initial data suggests that men, who have undergone radical prostatectomy (surgical removal of their prostate), using nerve-sparing procedures, are not achieving the same positive results with Uprima.

What happens if there is no sexual stimulation following the ingestion of Uprima?

Uprima is naturally eliminated from your body in a few hours.

Can Uprima be combined with other treatments for impotence?

The use of such combined treatments is not recommended, since no studies have been done to access Uprima's safety and effectiveness.

Are there any populations were Uprima has not been clinically tested?

Yes, there are several medical conditions were the effectiveness of Uprima havecnot been clinically tested i.e. patients with spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, status post pelvic surgery including radical prostatectomy.

Is there a potential for Uprima to be used in the treatment of impotence in women?

There are currently several medical research centers that are studying whether Uprima is a viable oral therapy for woman. Unfortunately, secondary to their anatomy, researchers know less concerning female sexual dysfunction than with the male sexual dysfunction. Historically, research has focused on male sexual dysfunction. Until we have a better understanding of the physiological processes causing sexual dysfunction in women are ability to treat the condition is limited.
